ACHERON: Columbus Show Cancelled Following Death Threat
June 18, 2004Columbus, Ohio-based black/death metal cult band ACHERON have had their previously scheduled July 19 show at Skully's Music Club in Columbus, Ohio, cancelled due to a death threat. According to the band's official statement on the matter, "The story seems to be that a caller talked to a club employee and stated that if ACHERON played their venue someone was going to die. Then they hung up. Instead of taking the call as a joke or a prank, the club owner decided to take the band off the July 19th bill. The band apologizes to their fans for the problem, and hope to re-schedule another show in Columbus very soon."
Band founder Vincent Crowley made the following comment: "This whole thing is complete bullshit. Would they cancel any show due to a threatening call? I personally think the club owner got in a little over his head by booking a band like us. Perhaps their yuppy rock club wasn't ready for a black/death metal band to play their stage? I heard the owner's wife was a Christian and freaked out on our new album's promotional posters. Perhaps this has something to do with it? I have no idea? What pisses me off is that we went down to the club to discuss the situation and the owner wouldn't let the bouncers leave us into the club. Fucking pussy! ACHERON did everything that was asked of us, yet they didn't stick to their word. We send our apologies to the Columbus, Ohio fans and promise to reschedule another soon in the near future. Forever fighting censorship!"
ACHERON are encouraging their fans to contact Skully's and voice their opinion about the band not playing the show. "If you're pissed about this, let them know!" concludes the statement.
